I used to believe that it was the only way to drop body fat. It came at such a cost to my energy, health, metabolism and hormones…and eventually there would always be a weight rebound.

SUGARS FOR METABOLISM.
Natural sugars help to increase metabolism and the faster metabolism is, the faster fat is burned. The liver USES sugar to convert T4 to T3. Glucose is the fuel the body requires for cellular energy production and metabolism. 

THE RESEARCH.
There is an abundance of research supporting that low carbohydrate diets result in: 
• A fall in active T3 thyroid hormone. 
• A rise in thyroid blocking reverse T3 hormone. 
• A fall in metabolic rate and energy production.
And….All of these suppress thyroid gland functioning.

To burn fat effortlessly and have great energy, a healthy thyroid gland is essential.

Carbohydrates play an integral role in regulating thyroid gland functioning. The right carbohydrates at the right times is imperative.

A landmark Vermont study concluded that T3 is very sensitive to calorie AND carbohydrate intake. When calories and carbohydrates are too low, T3 drops. 

There are other studies that also show ketogenic diets reduce T3 levels as rapidly as being in a state of starvation. Without healthy T3 levels, fat loss can be very difficult.
