EAT CHEESE TO BURN FAT? WHICH TYPE AND WHY?
When I first changed my nutrition to a Pro-Metabolic diet, I thought it was ridiculous to even consider eating cheese. I hadn’t enjoyed cheeses in 15 years. They were never part of any diet plan I was on.
I can now get super lean… and stay lean…eating quality European cheese every single day. The ProComp competition athletes also have cheese in their contest plans.
SO, HOW DOES CHEESE HELP WITH FAT LOSS?
1. Calcium plays an essential role in increasing metabolism and fat burning. Cheese is a wonderful source of calcium.
2. As concluded by Dr. Ray Peat an esteemed endocrinologist, “Calcium inhibits the fat-forming enzymes, fatty acid synthase, reducing the formation of fats and at the same time it activates the uncoupling proteins in the mitochondria…. Calcium increases the metabolic rate, the uncoupling proteins burn calories faster while they protect against free-radical oxidations.”
3. Cheese is also a perfectly balanced food containing protein, carbs and fat. This is essential for keeping blood sugar levels stable and fat burning constant.
I get asked “what type of cheese?” and the next comment is “What if I am lactose intolerant?”
THE ANSWER –
PARMIGIANO REGGIANO or any hard PARMESAN or EURPOEAN cheese. These cheeses are 100% lactose free. Within 6-8 hours after the cheese is made, lactose is transformed into the easily digestible lactic acid through the actions of the enzymes of the cheese.
Most European Parmesan hard cheeses mature over at least 24months. The cheese is made from RAW MILK produced by grass fed cows. NO additives or processing chemicals are used in its production. It is easily digestible and rich in free amino acids, proteins, lipids, calcium, phosphorus and mineral salts. Cheese making is still considered a traditional art in Europe.
Europe has banned the use of genetically modified or non-animal rennet in their cheeses. Unfortunately, most Australian and NZ cheese makers still use additives and non-animal rennet to coagulate the cheese. This is a common practice to enable quicker and cheaper maturation of the cheese.
Anytime artificial or chemical additives are added to food, it interferes with the quality and there is a direct correlation to health, fat burning and metabolism.

One of my favorite snacks is cheese and ripe tropical fruit such as grapes, watermelon, pineapple and melons. The combination is metabolically stimulating, delicious and rich in calcium. It has a balanced macronutrient profile of non-inflammatory protein, metabolic boosting carbohydrates and saturated fat.

Look for hard cheeses with minimal Ingredients. They should contain only milk, animal rennet and salt.
