Yes, metabolic damage does exist. I see it every day in those who are trying so hard to get lean. People that try very hard to do everything right and still get zero results. This is not a happy place. Those with metabolic damage experience frustration, misery, exhaustion and despair. It’s an all too familiar story and I know as I have been there,
When metabolism is slow fat loss can be
slow. Sometimes despite dieting fat loss
can even come to a halt
Reality check. When thyroid hormone conversion is slow the result is a metabolism that slows down along with any possible fat loss results.
Metabolism is controlled by the amount of T3 thyroid hormone that is present in the blood. When the thyroid gland does not produce enough T3, metabolic rate is altered. Here are 10 signs that your thyroid hormone conversion is slowing down and impacting metabolic rate. If you want to have optimal health and burn fat efficiently, then you need to listen to your body
The Pro-Metabolic 12-week meal plan programs focus on eating food that helps upregulate T3 production and avoids foods that slows it down. This is a great place to start to health metabolic and hormonal issues. Our Pro-Metabolic nutrition plans include simple sugars such as ripe tropical fruit, juices and raw honey, saturated fats like coconut oil, quality dairy and quality proteins such as shellfish and gelatin.
10 WARNING SIGNS OF A SLOWING METABOLISM.
1. WEIGHT LOSS PLATEUS OR CESSATION OF WEIGHT
When your metabolism is slowing down, weight loss halts or sometimes completely stops. Kaput!!
No matter how much exercise is done or how little is eaten, when metabolism is damaged, trying to lose weight becomes really, really difficult.
If your body identifies that there is the potential of a famine with a low calorie or restricted macronutrient diet, it maintains as much weight as possible to for survival. It will slow down all your body systems, holds onto fat with the main focus on survival to live for longer on less.
2. LACK OF ENERGY.
Fatigue. Exhaustion. Difficulty getting out of bed in the morning. Being constantly tired in the day. When metabolism slows down, so does energy production Our body is trying to preserve what little fuel may be left in case it is urgently needed. If you are not fueling your body with enough Pro-Metabolic food, it will conserve whatever fuel it has. It will conserve energy and that results in pace and vibrancy drastically reducing.
3. DIGESTIVE ISSUES AND BLOATING. Gluten and dairy intolerances.
A low level of thyroid hormone, which slows down metabolism, also slows down colonic transfer time. This leads to greater fermentation of food in the small intestine and bacterial overgrowth that results in gas and bloating. The substances produced by bacteria can damage the lining of the small intestine and cause the loss of lactase enzymes resulting in intolerances to dairy.
Very rarely does poor digestion happen overnight. Digestive changes usually happen slowly over a period of time. By the time you notice something’s wrong, it’s likely an indication your metabolic rate has been deregulating for some time.
This is often where your health starts to fail. Your whole body and all of its systems depend on nutrients. You are unable to break down or absorb the necessary nutrients without robust digestion. You cannot have a healthy, efficient digestion with a slow metabolism. To get rid of bloating then it is important to focus on metabolic health first.
4. COMPROMISED IMMUNE SYSTEM.
Hydrochloride acid in the stomach decreases when thyroid hormone production decreases. HCL creates an acidic environment in your gut which helps kill bacteria and viruses. 70% of the immune system is located in the gut and when metabolism is slow HCL decreases and immunity is compromised.
I used to experience all sorts of food cravings. I craved sweet foods, salty foods, crunchy foods and savoury foods. I finally realised what I actually needed when I took the time to listen to my body. My body was telling me all along!!!
When I eat what my body needs, my cravings stop.
“Any craving is a good starting point, because there are several biological mechanisms for correcting specific nutritional deficiencies. When something is interfering with the ability to use sugar, you can crave it because if you don’t eat it you can waste protein to make It.” -Dr. Ray Peat, PhD
SUGAR CRAVINGS. Sugar is the body’s primary energy source. If you don’t eat enough sugar because of either low carbohydrate dieting or just dieting in general, you will start to crave it any form. I have found that the best choice of sugars to keep me lean and fuel my body is ripe tropical fruits, raw honey, pure orange juice and root vegetables. These are the exact sugars we use in our Pro-Metabolic meal plan programs. If I eat simple sugars whilst dieting, I can drop the kilos and get lean without having sugar cravings.
SALT CRAVINGS. It is common to crave salt when you are stressed. When the stress hormone cortisol is released, sodium is lost. As a direct result, the body wants to consume more salt to compensate. I simply now add extra unrefined white sea-salt to my meals when my stress levels increase.
6. HORMONAL ISSUES / CELLULITE.
From PMS, PCOS, cysts, cellulite, menstrual issues, fertility, low libido, mood swings, and irritability, depression, anxiety and fat storage in hips, butt and thighs. When thyroid hormone production is slow, the protective hormone progesterone is low and the estrogen becomes high.
Cellulite and Estrogen dominance can ultimately be linked to low thyroid gland functioning.
Whilst there are many contributing factors that can increase cellulite production such as inactivity, diets high in polyunsaturated fats, obesity, chemicals, toxins, genetics, sluggish lymphatic system and hormone imbalance, cellulite is ultimately a result of low thyroid gland health and efficiency. This subsequently drives estrogen high.
Raising metabolic health and seeking hormonal balance is an intelligent and effective solution. Hormonal balance is a process. Eating pro-metabolic food is a great place to support and upregulate thyroid gland functioning will help balance estrogen and metabolic activity.
Estrogen is a significant component that drives cellulite development.
“High estrogen, low progesterone – estrogen increases the accumulation of fat, specifically in the areas that are typically affected by cellulite. It renders the fibroblasts more hydrophobic and predisposes them to water retention and edema, it increases the permeability and thus the leakage from the cells and promotes the formation of sclerotic tissue.” – Suppversity research.
Men generally do not experience deposits of cellulite. This can when men have higher estrogen levels and lower androgenic levels.
7. DRY SKIN AND THINNING HAIR.
Dry skin, rashes, allergies and thinning hair.
A high level of thyroid hormone increases the formation of hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate production. Both hyaluronic acid and chondroitin sulphate helps to keep skin supple and in great condition. Low levels of thyroid hormone will hamper the formation and renewal of the structural parts of the derma resulting in dry, blotchy and uneven skin.
When thyroid hormone production slows down, bodily systems slow down, digestion is disrupted and bowel transit times increase resulting in constipation. This is actually one of the top 3 signs of hyperthyroidism.
9. LOW BODY TEMPERATURE.
The thyroid gland is responsible for metabolism and temperature. When metabolism is slow then body temperatures are low. A normal to fast metabolism will have waking temperatures of around 36.6 degrees.
According to the research of Broda O. Barnes, MD, PhD. A temperature of less than 36degrees upon waking can be indicative of a slow metabolism and hampered thyroid gland function. Body temperature is an accurate representation of how well cells in the body are generating energy. According to Barnes, if the thyroid gland is under active, a temperature of 1-2 degrees below normal will be present. A temperature of 1-2 degrees above normal can suggest an overactive thyroid or a highly stressed state and high cortisol.
The pulse is driven down by a cellular energy deficit to support your energy expenditure. This is a direct result of not eating enough food and/or nutrients. The body slows heart rate when metabolic rate is slowing down to allow it to go longer on less.
The ideal pulse rate for a high metabolic rate is a pulse rate of 80-85 beats per minute. According to Dr. Ray Peat, PhD, “Healthy and intelligent groups of people have been found to have an average resting pulse rate of 85/minute, while less healthy groups average close to 70/minute.”
10. SLEEP ISSUES.
Not being able to fall asleep or waking up throughout the night is an important warning sign that your body is exhausting its fuel and the an indicator that your body is directly impacted by stress hormones.
SO YOU HAVE SOME OF THESE SIGNS? WHAT NOW????
Before things get worse and fat loss becomes even harder, once identified the best time is now to start listening to your body.
If you suffer from any of these indicators described now is your best time to choose to turn your circumstances around!!!
Do your own 12-week challenge with our 12-week
boost and shred to improve health, metabolism and burn fat. The plan has been designed to reduce stress
and nourish your body with the most effective quality pro-thyroid food. The plans contain all macros with carbs,
proteins and fats so that cells are fuelled.
Food is NOT your enemy. A
strategic approach with enough of the right food is the solution. Cells need glucose from sugars to respire. Glucose
is required for t4 to convert to t3…the foundation of metabolism.
What you eat and the choices that you make will either help to improve metabolic rate or destroy metabolic rate.
